I’m well aware at how petty and pathetic my opinions are, how pathetic I sound, but I just want a bit of a moan.
Doctor Who is about to embark on a World Tour, with Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Steven Moffat taking a two week jaunt across five continents, in the run up to the new series’ start on August 23rd.
It’s great that the show’s got such a global following, and is more popular than ever in the States, especially. However, in the last couple of years, as overseas promotion for Doctor Who as a brand has grown, a lot of us at home seem to be missing out.
Take the World Tour, which takes in the Welsh and English capital cities. Not everyone can get to Cardiff or London for special events. How about a UK tour sometime? A nationwide trip would be great for fans in the North or the Midlands, Scotland or the South.
A tour taking in places like Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds. Sheffield [okay, I’m biased], Birmingham, for example. Some people [alright, I]simply can’t afford or have the means to get to the capital cities, and I’m sure there are plenty around the country in similar situations.
Back in 2010, in the run up to the Eleventh Doctor’s (and Steven Moffat’s) first series, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, and a logo-emblazened Tour Bus, visited about half a dozen schools across the country.
There are thousands of schoolkids who would love a visit like that. And, come to that, why should the kids have all the fun? There are plenty of adults who’d like to experience special and promotional events, too.
Like I said before, I’m well aware at how much I sound like a pathetic, whimpering crybaby, but I just wish there were more of the special events taking place abroad for us poor fans at home.
