This time last week, Peter Capaldi walked out of the Time Vortex to be introduced – to a Worldwide audience of almost 8.5 million – as the Twelfth Doctor.
I was determined to update this blog with the news of Who had won the part as soon as possible, and, as Peter Capaldi was almost certain to be announced as the new Doctor, I wrote my blog post in advance, and just hit the ‘post’ button at 7:26pm last Sunday (although I was disappointed to realise that my blog entries don’t include the time they were posted, just the date. So I went back afterwards, and edited the beginning of the post to include the time).
Of course, there was a chance that the Next Doctor wouldn’t be Capaldi. It could’ve been Daniel Rigby. Or Ben Daniels. Or Billie Piper.
So, just in case, I wrote another blog post in advance, with space to hastily write in the name of Our New Favourite Actor, a few interchangable paragraphs of Thoughtful Considered Opinion, to be deleted as necessary when Zoë Ball eventually announced his (or her) name.
A week has passed, so, just for the hell of it, I thought I’d let you see what my immediate thoughts could have been like this time last week…
Well, the new Doctor Who has just been announced, Live on BBC One.
And whaddya know? It wasn’t Peter Capaldi after all.
No, the Twelfth Doctor is, in fact, —–.
[THEN – one of…]
To be honest, not someone I’d’ve thought of – he certainly wasn’t on any of the ‘runners and riders’ lists that have been doing the rounds – but I can see how Steven Moffat and his team came to make their decision, and certainly look forward to seeing how he settles into his time in the TARDIS.
[OR…]
To be fair, he was on the lists of favourites for the role that have been doing the rounds since Matt Smith announced his decision to leave, and, though he wasn’t up at the top with Capaldi or Daniel Rigby, his casting isn’t a big shock. Still, I can see the Steven Moffat’s reasoning behind his casting, and look forward to seeing his introduction to the TARDIS.

To be fair, he was on the lists of favourites for the role that have been doing the rounds since Matt Smith announced his decision to leave, but I was kind of hoping it wouldn’t be him. Not particularly one of my favourite actors, but I suppose Steven Moffat must have had good cause to cast him. He didn’t go far wrong in casting Matt Smith, and he didn’t turn out too bad, did he? I’m sure he’ll turn out to be fine at the TARDIS Controls.

A bit of a bolt out of the (TARDIS) blue – not on any of the lists of favourites, but one I whole-heartedly approve of! A great actor, and I can’t wait to see him take the controls of the TARDIS. It just goes to show that people really should have a bit more faith in Steven Moffat and his casting decisions…
[AND THEN, NO MATTER WHAT…]
And at least it’s not Ricky bloody Gervais.
Anyway, more bits of news and thoughts later on. when I’ve got a few more.
Hope you found that sufficiently amusing/embarrassing. ;)
