And so, this blog begins with an amusing little exchange from Twitter this afternoon.
This involves journalist Benjamin Cook (a Doctor Who Magazine regular), myself, and somebody who isn’t the type of person I would even want to know.
So, Tweets from earlier from Benjamin Cook (@benjamin_cook), myself (@bromley001) and someone called Dean, who has the really quite amazing username of @YoDean…
@benjamin_cook: I feel like a pair of curtains.
@bromley001: @benjamin_cook You do look a little drawn. *awards self bonus points for avoiding the obvious answer*
[my tweet is then RT’d by Ben Cook, for all his followers to see and reply to, if so desired]
@YoDeano: @bromley001 Remove 3 points for being over-weight, bald and bearded.
[This is an insult. I am often insulted in a similar manner by friends/acquaintances from online forums, and no offence is meant or taken. Thus, I reply:]
@bromley001: @YoDeano Why, thankyou, darling.
[I then check Dean’s Twitter Bio, and his ‘following’ and ‘followers’ lists. Apart from following some of the same (largely Doctor Who based) celebrities, Dean and myself have little in common.]
@bromley001: @YoDeano Sorry, do I know you? Because if I don’t, I’m not keen on over-familiar insults.
@YoDeano: @bromley001 No. You’re not the type of person that I would know.
@bromley001: @YoDeano Well, fuck off then.
@YoDeano: @bromley001 Minus another point for lack of class.
@bromley001: I’ve just been insulted by a ‘progressively liberal Tory’ I don’t even know. I can take being insulted by friends, but not strangers.
Since this little adventure, some of my followers have offered words of support, and even Tweeted the odious Troll in my defence. As I have pointed out, I wasn’t particularly offended – I have been called worse by other online friends- but it’s just the sheer cheek of a complete stranger to insult me – presumably for having a fairly witty Tweet reTweeted by someone he follows, an act which has taken exception to – which has rattled my cage a little.
I’d also like to ask that, if you’re reading this and thinking, ‘why, that’s ridiculous! I must Tweet this @YoDeano character and express my angry concern over this matter’ – please don’t. No doubt Dean Biddiscombe, the “Managing Director of Deano DVD Conversions. Country boy at heart. Progressively liberal Tory. Contrarian. Chair of Conservative Future Bridgwater” would enjoy someone paying attention to him.
I wonder what his website, deanosdigest.blogspot.cm [sic] is like…
